What is unique about your city? What do you love and hate about it? Which sights, sounds, smells and feelings make you call this home? Where are your favourite places, the hidden paradises? How do you negotiate the daily grind? What is changing? What stays the same?
“Arriving at each new city, the traveler finds again a past of his that he did not know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places.” Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities
As the world undergoes the largest wave of urban growth in history, we want to capture the different ways people experience, negotiate and engage with city life. We are creating a visual based website to showcase, across the globe, a different theme of urban living each week.
If you are one of the 3 billion people who live in an urban environment, and interested in participating either as a regular contributor or an occasional observer, we want to hear from you.
Send to firstname.lastname@example.org, by 21 May 2012, a sample image that captures something special about your city, and 300-500 words explaining why your city deserves the spotlight for our inaugural season.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
If selected as one of our urban representatives, you will be part of a project funded by urban@LSE, an interdisciplinary urban research network at the London School of Economics and Political Science. You will gain publicity for your work, and network with like minded city dwellers to help document the many intriguing and fascinating aspects of our urban worlds.
